Soft recovery is the most important process of Exchange Server recovery and is carried out in case of EDB corruption. It is performed through Eseutil /r. In the default scenario of soft recovery, an external even unpredictably stops the Exchange Server database, but the log and database files remain intact. When the database is remounted, Exchange Server reads the checkpoint files and starts to replay the transaction log which is listed as the checkpoint log. If the checkpoint files do not exist, replay begins with the oldest log file exists in the transaction log. Soft recovery is very useful for repairing and restoring Exchange Server database after corruption. In such circumstances, the database remains in corrupted state and you can not access your stored data from it.
